Some people believe that they have a good diet, but the truth is that this goes beyond following a diet to lose weight; just as it is not about those habits in which the more you eat the better you are. Beyond restricting a long list of foods, it is about avoiding the consumption of some things, enjoying others, avoiding excesses, respecting mealtimes, not abusing with snacks … So, do you think you eat well? Then, we will show you some tips to improve your diet and thus your quality of life.
Some tips for a good diet
Eat 5 times a day
Ideally, you should eat following this order: breakfast, snack, lunch, afternoon snack and dinner; having each meal every 3 hours approximately, so that you should eat each main meal (breakfast, lunch and dinner) every 6 hours.
This is an excellent eating routine, as it will allow you to stay satisfied all day long, thus preventing excesses and controlling anxiety. In addition, it will improve your metabolism and your intestinal transit.
Respect mealtimes
For various reasons, it is usual to “skip a meal”, or simply end up “having breakfast” at 1 pm; the truth is that this is the worst thing we can do for our body. It is important to value everything that our body does to work properly, and it is best to collaborate so that all this work is carried out in the right way and thus enjoy good health.
It is simple: for example if you have breakfast at 7:00 am, then, lunch at 1:00 pm and dinner at 7:00 pm; and enjoy a delicious snack between each meal. In this way, you respect your biological clock and facilitate the digestive process.
Do not overdo it with portions
Although you should eat until you are satisfied, it is best to take it easy, especially when it’s time to enjoy a delicious snack. It is best that this is only a small snack, a simple snack; for example, if you decide to have a fruit snack, it should be just that, only one fruit. Try to avoid eating the same amount as in a main dish.
On the other hand, in the case of dinner, you should consider eating something light, it is not about reducing the amount of food drastically, it is about avoiding certain slow-digesting foods, those “heavy foods” that can cause nighttime discomfort, such as meat consumption at dinner.
Eat calmly, it is not a competition
It is very important to take the time to eat calmly, chewing each bite well. Although sometimes the lifestyle can become very fast-paced and you try to save time even at the moment of eating, it is best to do things right, and that includes chewing well.
In general terms, it is recommended to chew at least 20 times each bite in order to grind the food well and thus carry out a good digestive process along with proper absorption of nutrients. It also prevents choking; do you know that at least 20,000 people die every year by choking? Many of these cases occur as a consequence of not chewing well. But do not exaggerate; although you should eat calmly, it is not healthy to spend hours eating the same dish.
Avoid the consumption of soft drinks and excess sugar.
Soft drinks are delicious, but also harmful, especially black cola. Regardless of the brand or presentation, black cola is the worst thing you can consume. Not only does it contain an absurd amount of sugar, but it also contains a lot of caffeine. It is an addictive drink that with constant consumption causes bone wasting, premature aging, obesity, anemia, and increases the probability of suffering from diabetes, as well as cancer, among other things.
And what about sugar? Should it be eliminated? It is not about eliminating sugar consumption from your diet. In fact, although many people advise eliminating it or replacing it with honey consumption, being the best you can do, it does not mean that you cannot enjoy a classic sweet from time to time or a delicious juice. In these cases, you should not abuse the constant and excessive consumption of sugar, since its excess causes obesity, oral and dental problems, hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and even the risk of cancer.
Don’t forget to drink water
You are probably thinking: what does water have to do with a good diet? As water is a liquid that we consume, it is part of our diet. Water consumption will allow you to enjoy a good intestinal transit, so you can effectively prevent or improve constipation problems, as well as prevent and improve fluid retention, among other problems.
But, how much water do you need to drink? 2 liters of water a day will be more than enough to keep you healthy. However, keep in mind that this does not include the consumption of juices or any other beverage. The consumption of water should be just that, only water, the rest of the drinks are nothing more than a complement, that is, an additional taste.
